At Billhop, we wanted to create a series of engaging vector illustrations that truly represent who we are—a payment company that helps businesses stay on top of their bills. Instead of going with generic finance-related visuals, we decided to add a human touch with a fun and dynamic twist.
Our approach? Illustrations that play on the word "bills" while showing people confidently managing their payments.
This project took place in 2022, during a period when we were expanding our digital marketing efforts.

The Creative Direction
We knew from the start that we wanted something bright, fresh, and eye-catching—something that would pop across digital channels like Facebook and LinkedIn. Since we were also launching targeted ads for small businesses, we thought, why not reflect that in the visuals?
This led us to develop illustrations of different small business owners, each managing their payments effortlessly with Billhop. From cafes to freelance designers, we created a relatable and visually engaging series that made it clear.
The Balance: Problem vs. Solution
A great product illustration doesn’t just highlight features—it tells a story. While focusing on Billhop’s Unique Selling Propositions (USPs), we also made sure to remind users of the initial problem they’re trying to solve:
The Problem: Managing bills can be stressful and time-consuming.
The Solution: Billhop makes it seamless, allowing you to pay invoices using your credit card—even where cards aren’t accepted.
The Fun Twist: A visual representation of business owners "hopping over" financial hurdles with ease, reinforcing the idea that Billhop simplifies payments.

Colour Explorations
After selecting the primary colours, I experimented with incorporating them into the illustrations.
Illustrations for Campaigns
While launching Facebook and LinkedIn ads targeting small businesses, we explored using illustrations that depicted various small business scenarios. We loved the idea of incorporating playful visuals with a clever twist on words and decided to move forward with that approach.
Final Thoughts
Product illustrations are more than just visuals; they’re a storytelling tool. By weaving in creativity, playfulness, and a clear connection to our brand, we ensured that our Billhop illustrations don’t just look good—they communicate our value effectively.
As we continue refining our visual identity, we’ll keep experimenting with ways to make finance and payments feel more accessible, engaging, and even fun.
